We believe positive reinforcement training is the best way to create a happy and confident dog who understands what is expected of them. Training should begin as soon as your new puppy arrives in your home. Our “First Paw Forward” program is designed to take advantage of the young dog’s early learning and socialization period and is open to pups from 8 weeks – 16 weeks at the start of the program. We introduce the basic commands, such as sit, down, settle on a mat, and you will learn to avoid common puppy problem behaviours by developing your dog’s self control and ability to focus and respond to you around other dogs and people. The class routine also includes the opportunity for the puppies to socialize in a safe and controlled environment before being ready for interaction with other dogs out in the parks or on the street. *Puppies only require their first set of vaccinations for the First Paw Forward program. Instructor: Renee deVilliers or Sabira deVilliers
We believe that training is the best way to create a happy and confident dog who understands what is expected of him. Training should begin as soon as your new dog arrives in your home. Perhaps you have not had a chance to attend a puppy class or you have adopted an older dog. This foundations level obedience class is for dogs four months or older. It is designed to help you instill the basic commands you will need to communicate with your dog and help him understand the rules of your home. All exercises are progressive and skills are built from the first class to the last. If you and your dog have not participated in a group class before or if you are finding that your adolescent puppy is not as co-operative as you would like, this is the class for you. Remember it is your job to be your dog’s “guide to proper etiquette” when living in a human’s world and make sure you have given your dog the skills and guidance to help him become a fabulous companion animal. Once you have mastered the basics, you can hone your skills through our intermediate level classes and be ready for some “extra curricular” activities such as: agility, rally obedience, tricks or therapy work.
Rally Obedience can be described as obedience exercises performed in a sequence format, with the emphasis on an upbeat relationship between handler and dog. It is an advanced level obedience program made up of a compilation of many of the traditional obedience exercises, including heeling, sit, down, stand, and stay. Rally is a terrific sport and builds a strong working relationship between dog and handler. Rally obedience skills serve as a foundation for everyday life skills, other human-dog team sports such as agility, and any type of dog assisted therapy programs.
Participants in our Novice Rally program need to have successfully completed the Never Too Late and Coming Back for More programs. Dog and handler need to have an understanding of our method of training as well as the basic components of obedience training: attention to handler, sit, down, stay, loose lead walking.
When a team has developed modest skills on all the equipment they are ready for an advanced class. We have several classes of this level grouped according to experience and ability. In advanced level agility, stations are used to allow teams to practice various and increasingly complex patterns and sequences where we expand upon the dogs understanding of the handlers signals. Once the teams have rotated through the stations a longer course is set up to simulate a course similar to what might be found in competition. This allows each person the opportunity to practice course memorization skills as well as teaching the dogs to sustain their focus and ability for an entire course. Emphasis in all programs is put on the development of the dog handler relationship and a camaraderie among participants.
This six-week class is designed to be a foundation skills class to prepare the dog and handler for the sport of agility. We require that you and your dog have successfully completed a minimum of one levels of obedience taught through positive reinforcement methods and achieved within a group class setting. Your dog will be taught foot targeting, nose touch targeting, and introduced to introductory level equipment. This program will teach you more about positive training processes and use of body language which is a necessary first step towards understanding the basics of handling and will be essential to your success as a team when you move to the next level. If you have not taken any group training classes before we recommend our Never Too Late (foundations for obedience) and Coming Back for More (advanced obedience), both of which are tailored to work on the skills required to be successful in agility. It is highly recommended you take our obedience classes first before starting into our agility program.
At this level, prep work is begun for the contact obstacles - teeter, dog walk and A-frame. The nose touch targeting behaviour initiated in level 1 is systematically transferred to the dog walk, and A-frame and different elements of the teeter totter performance are introduced. As the class progresses, the dogs and handlers will be moving about the room from station to station to allow maximum training time for each team. Dog/handler teams will start to build short sequences of tunnels and jumps, helping them learn more about how to navigate a course together. For this level the dogs need to have good attention to the handler in order to succeed as the dogs will be working on the floor at the same time spread about the arena.
This a split class that includes Level 2 Beginner students and Intermediate Level 3 students.

Long periods of cage rest, being under anesthesia, birth trauma, slips or falls, and of course the general wear and tear of life. Pet owners may not always be aware of the stresses that affect their pets and cause chiropractic problems. This is why we now host monthly Chiro Days, where you can come to All About Dogs and have your dog treated by Dr. Larisa Shevchuk. Initial assessments are 30 minutes.
