Puppy Classes for Dogs Between 8-23 Weeks Old (please select appropriate class from this category based on age group)(4)
Puppy Primer Class - SMALL/MED BREEDS PREFERRED $255.00
For puppies between 8-16 weeks old, preferably small to medium breeds but all are welcome - we separate playtimes to ensure success. If you can't make this class work and have a small breed, you are welcome in a different slot! Six consecutive 45-minute group sessions. For more information on this class, go to happydoginstitute.com/puppy.
Let us help you with socialization and positive exposure to the world - and safely. You can work your pup out of the car or have them explore to their heart's content, depending on your comfort level. For current puppy class students or recent graduates. Dogs must be under six months to join class. Four weeks of field trip classes.
Put your dog's nose to work and continue your adventure in scent work and the sport of nose work. Your dog will continue to advance their skills in searching in the nose work elements of containers, interior, exterior and vehicles.
Can’t get an appointment with your vet or groomer? Is clipping your dog’s nails or cleaning their ears at home a nightmare? Is your dog uncomfortable with going to the vet? Get the skills you need to make your next visit more comfortable for your dog in our Cooperative Care class.
The IAABC describes Cooperative Care as “training an animal to not only tolerate handling and husbandry procedures, but to be an active, willing participant in these experiences”, which we love! You can learn more about the concept on their website.
WHO this class is a good fit for:
-Dogs that are nervous around human strangers - this may look like hesitancy to approach, cowering/hiding, or rushing towards/barking when meeting new people. Ideally these dogs are interested in interacting with strangers but don’t have the skills to do so.
-Dogs who are fearful or reactive towards humans (strangers)
-Dogs who need help building confidence around new people
-Guardians who are committed to positive reinforcement training and who do not/have not used aversives (punishment, shock collars, pronged collars, etc.)
-Guardians who can commit to doing required coursework and managing dog-human interactions, and who understand that slow and steady wins the race!
-Guardians who are able to commit to at least one to two hours of initial virtual sessions (an individual assessment/consult and an hour-long virtual group orientation)
Who this class is NOT a good fit for (we will offer a private training package):
-Dogs who have separation anxiety and cannot be left alone in the car
-Dogs who have a severe or significant bite history (contact us if you are unsure about this)
