We are so excited that you are considering a raw diet for your dog. We have been DIYing our dogs' meals for over five years and we will never go back to kibble after seeing the transformative lifestyle our dogs are able to live. Healthy coats, great stomach health, beautiful teeth, and exceptional health checkups.
Raw is usually intimating not only because we wonder if we are "doing it right," but financially as well. Not only are we trying to help our clients live healthier lives, but also do it at a price range that is much more affordable. By locally sourcing our meats and goods, we are able to cut out the middleman and beat the commercial pricing that large-name raw companies are charging.
Now, if you're going to feed raw, you should understand why and what you are feeding. What we offer is a PMR Diet, prey model raw. Basically, the theory is to mimic a diet that a wolf (where dogs descend from) would eat in the wild. This diet follows the 80/10/5/5 rule. 80% muscle meat, 10% bone (this is ground right in the muscle meat), 5% liver (the most nutrient dense organ of any animal), and 5% other offal (fancy word for secreting organs like kidney or pancreas).
Depending on your dog's lifestyle, age, and weight, we will do the math that is required to tell you how much your dog should be eating per day. Typically, a healthy adult dog will eat 2% of their body weight per day (this is the same theory as kibble, just measured in cups instead of pounds or ounces.)
For example, and 80lbs dog would eat 1.6lbs of total food per day.
Percentages:
1.5-1.75% = lose weight, elderly low activity
2% = maintain weight, adult dog, moderate activity
2.5=3% = gain weight, adult dog, high activity
3%-4% = puppy (these diets vary based on dog's projected adult weight)
Our PMR diets come ready to thaw and serve in roughly 20-30 day batches. We include all of the meat listed above and supplements; probiotic (gut health) and a multivitamin (in case anything is missed while switching proteins and/or mimicking a biologically appropriate diet.
Pricing is based per pound (meaning everything included) and costs around $4-$7 a day depending on your dog's size and the protein you pick. It is recommended to alternate proteins.
We do our best to reduce waste by using reusable containers. There is a one-time container fee of $25. Please wash and return containers each month.
