This is not an introduction class. Group classes are reserved for teams currently active in competing or that have previously been introduced to Barn Hunt and have an interest in competition in the future. Rules will be discussed and reviewed like a competition.
In this 6-week class session, each team will rotate through a run order for 2 turns in the ring each week. Your turns in the ring will be tailored to you and your dog's specific needs and level.
Bring rewards for your dog, we can decide what to use, for your individual dog as motivation to get the best performance!
Please make sure you read your confirmation email with important details.

This is a group class for teams training and competing at the Novice or Open level.
There will be a run order determined each week at random by the instructor, so you need to both be on time for class but also need to have your dog ready to enter the arena at the latest by the time the dog ahead of you exits the ring. Each team is guaranteed 2 turns in the ring, per class, some weeks they could get up to 3 turns.
This class is reserved for those that have had an Introduction to Barn Hunt and are either currently competing in Barn Hunt Trials or plan to. If you have not taken an Introduction Lesson here at Run Wild you must email [email protected] to discuss whether joining a group class is appropriate for you and your dog.
In this class we will focus on competition ready skills, including but not limited to; reviewing and enforcing rules for your blind to ring routine, work on encouraging independent hunting with appropriate supportive handling, committed strong indication to rats, determine appropriate timing for tunneling your dog and develop a reliable tunnel on command, efficient end of run leashing back up and help determine what your after run routine should look like. We will also look at ways to continue expanding your dog's skills in exposing them to different types of hides that are an appropriate for them (threshold, perimeter, corners, high hides), introducing hides close together and rat/litter discrimination.
Get some trial like practice in, there will be no formal instruction given during this practice time, though specific requests can be made like clusters, perimeter hides, threshold hides, rat/litter discrimination puzzles etc. Please either email me with those details ahead of time or come ready to tell me before practice starts so we can make a note of what specific requests you want to work on.
A run order will be made and teams will blind in groups (at minimum pairs) to get practice with the trial environment routine!
In between your runs everyone will be expected to help run the ring for others and this includes but is not limited to; inside rat wrangling, outside rat wrangling, running the box, scribing. Please make sure you include in your booking note what level you will be practicing at so we can be prepared with the appropriate number of tubed rats!
Each dog must be registered seperately, each dog will get 2 runs which will have a maximum time limit of 4 minutes. When your 4 minutes are up you will need to promptly leash up your dog and exit the ring. If leashing up takes up a significant amount of time your remaining turns will be adjusted accordingly to ensure each dog does not exceed the maximum ring time of 8 minutes.

This workshop is sponsored by the Barn Hunt Club and will focus on building value and understanding for what is expected when a tunnel command is given.
Step 1 - Start with an easy (for your dog) tunnel and once value and understanding is developed. We will run all dogs thru a step before advancing to the next step.
Step 2 - Advance to longer tunnels, increased complexity, like more turns and the potential of including but not limiting to jogs and/or skylight entrances.
Step 3 - Begin to develop a distance send, because being able to send your dog to seek out the tunnel at any level is much more efficient than you having to "point it out", and anyone in Master knows we can encounter situations where both entrances are within a distance challenge.
Step 4 - Poof your work with hunting as part of the picture. It is important to provide a realistic situation to what you have in a trial. Lots of dogs become difficult to enforce tunneling when paired with hunting.
You need to bring the "goods" which means some VERY HIGH VALUE rewards, that may mean food and/or toy, depending on your dog. Bring options, variety so we can find what your dog says is worth tunneling for.
Exact tunnel set ups will be determined based on level of dogs and what is noted as most common struggles among attendees. We cannot guarantee we will be able to set up every available option, but we will do our best to set up what will help the majority improve upon confidence and skills.
Each dogs total ring time will not exceed 20 minutes.
Let us help you develop some skills for tunnel compliance and improve your efficiency with tunneling!
