It builds confidence, focus, and teamwork while giving dogs an opportunity to use their natural scenting abilities. Unlike traditional methods that pair food with odor, this course uses backchaining, a proven training technique used in professional detection dog programs. This approach works well for dogs of all personalities, from shy or easily distracted to highly driven. You'll learn the fundamentals of scent detection, proper odor handling, equipment use, hide placement, and odor obedience. Our goal is to develop confident, enthusiastic searchers while building a strong foundation for recreational Scent Work or future competition, including preparation for the Odor Recognition Test (ORT).
